Born in Kyoto, Japan, Yumiko TANIMURA obtained the first prize in Singing at the Arts University of Kyoto. She later settled in France in 2001 and followed the Specialization Cycle (post-graduate program) of Paris National Conservatory. She also obtained a diploma in Ancient Music at Paris Regional Conservatory.Prize-winner of the Grand Prix at the « Concours International Nadia et Lili Boulanger » in Paris in 2003, and a semi-finalist at the « Concours Reine Elisabeth » in Brussels in 2004, she also won the First Prize at the « Concours International de Musique de Chambre de Lyon » in 2006.She sang a number of major Oratorios and pieces of sacred music, with various European and Japanese Orchestras, at festivals such as La Chaise-Dieu, Vezelay, the Folle Journée in Nantes and in Tokyo. Among which were the « Passions » by Bach, « Messiah » by Händel, the « Great Mass in C minor » and the « Requiem » by Mozart, « The Creation » and « The Seasons » by Haydn, Brahms’ « A German Requiem », « Elias » by Mendelssohn, « Carmina Burana » by Orff, « Stabat Mater » and «Gloria» by Poulenc, « Correspondances » by Dutilleux. She sang under the direction of Michel Corboz, Jean-Claude Malgoire, Kaspar Zender, Benjamin Pionnier, Pascal Verrot, Junichi Hirokami, Yutaka Sado..., at the Theatre of the Champs-Elysées in Paris, the Cité de la musique in Paris, the Opéra de Lyon, the Victoria Hall in Geneva, the Symphony Hall in Osaka and the Suntory Hall in Tokyo… Yumiko Tanimura sang also in several operas. She was Gretel in « Hänsel und Gretel » by Humperdinck and the title role of « Deidamia », Händel’s last opera that she performed in Osaka. She interpreted Juliette in « The little Sweep » by Britten, the First Fairy in « The Fairy Queen » by Purcell at the Opéra de Rouen, Berta in « The barber of Seville» by Rossini, Miss Rose in « Lakmé » by Delibes and the Second Wood-Sprite in « Rusalka » at the Opéra de Tours. She also took part in the Greek creation of the « Martyre de Saint Sébastien » by Debussy in Athens. Passionately fond of chamber music, she has given numerous recitals in duo with the pianist Jonas VITAUD, since 2001, in Europe and in Japan. In 2006, she was nominated for the « Victoires de la Musique Classique » in the category « Révélations Internationales.
