It acts primarily as a concert and oratorio singer, he has sang under the baton of such conductors as Philippe Herreweghe, Jordi Savall, Michel Corboz, Sigiswald Kuijken, Gustav Leonhardt, Masaaki Suzuki, Hans-Christoph Rademann, Daniel Harding, Franz Brüggen, Philippe Pierlot, Frieder Bernius, Reinhard Goebel, Steven Stubbs, Helmut Rilling, Jos Van Immerseel and Paul Van Nevel. He also featured with Huelgas Ensemble for five years as the first bassist.
He debuted in opera in 2001, in Brussels La Monnaie. Since then, he has sung in productions in Geneva, Cologne, Bilbao, Lausanne, Toulouse and Venice.
His soloist career took him to almost all European countries, Israel, several times to Japan, China, South America and the United States and Canada. His work demonstrates over 70 CDs.
He is a leader and founder of the group Gli Angeli Genéve, which has a regular concert season in Geneva and whose first two CDs for Sony were awarded Editor's Choice of magazine Gramophone. Stephan MacLeod is also increasingly devoted to conducting (he will present with Gli Angeli Genéve at more than 35 concerts in 2016) and he is frequently and regularly invited as a conductor of both modern orchestras (Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, Philharmonie Zuidnederland) and early music ensembles (Nederlandse Bachvereniging, Wroclaw Baroque Orchestra, Bachcelona etc.).
Since 2013, he has been a professor of singing at the Music Academy in Lausanne.
