Jan Kalfus, born in Prague, he learnt the art of the organ from his father. He was instructed at the Prague Conservatory by Jaroslava Potmesilova and Jiri Ropek. Following that he commenced his studies at the Prague Academy of Music under Jan Hora and went on to study at the Cologne College of Music (Germany) with Viktor Lukas. Having received distinctions and diplomas at various competitions in Linz (A), Leipzig (D), Brno (CZ) and elsewhere, he went on to obtail the high distinction of Laureate of Organ Competition at the Prague Spring International Competition. Since 1979 Jan Kalfus has been performing as an independent concert organist. Concert tours have taken him through most of the European countries following by Japan, Korea, Mexico and USA. Employed as a lecturer at the Prague Conservatory for Organ Literature and Music Theory since 1988, Jan Kalfus also serves as an organist for the Church of St. Anthony in Prague. Although his main interest is the work of Czech composers, his repertoire ranges from Baroque masterworks to contemporary pieces.
