The Benda Quartet is a young and dynamic ensemble solely composed of members of the Janacek Philharmonic Orchestra. It was founded in 2012 out of the incentive of Petr Benda and Petr Grabovsky. Even though, both of them were and are members of a symphonic orchestra they wanted to engage in high quality chamber music like they used to during their studies. Grabovsky's and Benda's chamber music playing took place not only in the Czech Republic but also at prestigious foreign schools and Master Courses. Petr Benda was also a long-standing member of the Prague Philharmonia. Both of the violinists have a rich experience with solo and chamber music having played many joint concerts with larger chamber formations for instance with the Jack Martin Händler Academy in Luxembourg. In 2012, one of the projects within the St. Wenceslas Music Festival in Ostra va gave them an opportunity to co-operate with other eminent musicians of the Janacek Philharmonic Orchestra amongst whom were violoncellist Tomas Svozil and violist Marek Sumnik. After this encounter and the extensive musical experience that the Festival provided the sigularly formed festival chamber ensemble with, the newly-formed Benda Quartet decided to systematically devote their time and enthusiasm to produce a copious quartet repertoire. Even though the Benda Quartet is still quite a young ensemble it already has several achievements. For instance, their concert on April 7, 2014 which was realized during the 60th jubilee chamber music season of the Janacek Philharmonic Orchestra received a very positive reception from the audience. This concert was also recorded by the Czech Radio. In the Spring of 2015, on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II the Quarte t members, apart from playing classical concerts, will be enriching their repertoir by concerts for younger audiences. www.bendaquartet.com
