Libor Mašek
cello
After graduating from Brno Conservatory he continued his cello studies at Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Brno (class of Proff. Bedrich Havlik). There he also graduated from organ (Mgr. Petr Kolar), organ improvisation and orchestral conducting (sacred music dpt.). From the beginning of his studies he was engaged in ensembles devoted to interpretation of baroque music: Telemann Baroque Collegium and Cappella Apollinis. During this time he also took part in many master classes of cello and organ interpretation of early music. Since 2003 he is a member of Collegium 1704. He is often invited to collaboration with other ensembles specialized in early music interpretation: e. g. Musica Florea, Ensemble Inégal, Collegium Marianum, Czech Ensemble Baroque. Since the founding of Prague Philharmonia Chamber Orchestra in 1994 he is a member of its cello section. For eight years he works as an organist in the church of St. Anthony in Holesovice, Prague. He teaches basso continuo at the Prague Conservatory, and baroque cello at the Academy of Early Music in Brno. His interest in 20th-century music, currently namely the electronic music (Musique concrete), is contrary his liking of the 17th-18th-century music. He pursues this activity in his own studio of electronic musical instruments.
