Martinů Voices
The choir is named after one of the great figures in Czech music of the twentieth century. The reason is not an intent to perform exclusively the works of Bohuslav Martinů, but to express admiration for the artistic legacy of this cosmopolitan composer who never concealed his Czech origin. Such is also the programming of the Martinů Voices. Czech music plays an important role in it, but at least two thirds of the choir's repertoire are focused on vocal works by composers from abroad. No style period is preferred, and pieces are performed ranging from the Renaissance all the way to the twenty-first century. The choir usually performs independently, but does not avoid collaboration with outstanding soloists, chamber ensembles, and orchestras.
During the short time of its existence the choir has won the respect of Czech experts in the field of music. It has performed an extensive and demanding repertoire and given many concerts both in the Czech Republic (e.g. in the festivals Concentus Moraviae, Lípa Musica, and Music Olomouc, and in Prague's Rudolfinum for the Czech Society for Chamber Music) as well as in Spain. It has appeared on Czech Television and records regularly for Czech Radio. Some of these recordings have been released on compact discs by the labels ArcoDiva and Radioservis.
The performances of the young choir have so captivated several prominent figures on the Czech cultural scene that they have decided to support it actively: Jiří Bělohlávek, Aleš Březina, Karel Fiala, Jiří Heřman, Miroslav Košler, and Rudy Linka have all declared themselves as patrons of the Martinů Voices.
The Martinů Voices work under the leadership of choirmaster Lukáš Vasilek.
