Václav Čížek

Václav Čížek studied solo singing at Church Conservatoire Opava in the class of Sylva Pivovarčíková, Karel Smolka and Alexandr Vovk. He continued his studies under the guidance of Zdeněk Šmukař at the Janáček Academy in Brno, where he performed in chamber operas and appeared as Paolino in Cimarosi’s Il matrimonio segretto and as Lenski in Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin, and later in the class of Alexandr Vovk at the University of Ostrava, where he appeared as Rinuccio in Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi and as Don Ottavio in Mozart’s Don Giovanni. As a soloist and member of vocal ensembles he has worked with the orchestras Musica Florea, Ensemble Inégal, Czech Ensemble Baroque or Hof Musici and with conductors such as Václav Luks, Hans-Christoph Rademan, Vojtěch Spurný, Roman Válek, Adam Viktora, Marek Štryncl or Michal Klauza. He also appeared in performances directed by Ursel Herrmann, Constance Larrieu, Ondřej Havelka, Linda Keprtová, Karel Drgáč and Michael Ramach. Václav Čížek has been regular guest at prestigious festivals and concert stages in France (Opéra Royal de Versailles, théâtre de Caen, Opéra de Dijon, Festival de La Chaise–Dieu), the Benelux (Festival Oude Muziek Utrecht, Bozar in Brussels, Musica Antiqua Brugge), Germany (Bachfest Stuttgart, Tage Alter Musik Regensburg), Austria (Konzerthaus Wien), Poland (Chopin Festival Warszawa, Festival Muzyki Polskiej Krakow) and the Czech Republic (Prague Spring, Smetanova Litomyšl, Svatováclavský hudební festival). With Collegium 1704 and Ensemble Inégal he has performed in numerous recordings of musical works, particularly by J. D. Zelenka (Responsoria pro hebdomada sancta, Sanctus et Agnus Dei, Missa Omnium Sanctorum, Missa Sanctissimae Trinitatis, Missa Paschalis) and J. S. Bach (Mass in B minor).
