Markus Brutscher was born in Landsberg in Bavaria and was brought up in
Augsburg. He received an early music training when he sung with the boys
choir at the Augsburg Cathedral and the Regensburg Cathedral. Later he
studied with Norma Sharp at the Berlin Hans Eisler Hochschule für Musik,
then in London with Rudolph Piernay and finally in Maastricht where he
studied the voice with Mya Besselink. Already during his studies Markus
Brutscher was being counted as the most asked about tenor in the
country. He has also performed at all the major music capitals in the
whole of Europe, the United States of America and Asia. Markus Brutscher
continuously works together with leading orchestras in Europe and
America as well as with leading conductors such as Marc Minkowski,
Alessandro de Marci, Thomas Hengelbrock, Frieder Bernius, Peter Neumann,
Roland Wilson, Michael Schneider, Martin Haselböck, Helmut Müller‐Brühl
and others. Even though Markus Brutscher is known as a specialist in
old music he also manages to combine all types and styles from early
Baroque to contemporary musical pieces into his repertoire, as well as
developing more and more his operatic repertoire. During the last years
the Opera became more and more value in Markus Brutschers career. Markus
Brutscher performed in operaproductions like Traettas "Antigona"
(Kreon/ Adastro) in Antwerp, Salamanca and Bruxelles, Strauß`"Fledermaus
(Eisenstein), Janaceks "Katja Kabanova (Kudrias), Mozarts "Cosi fan
tutte" (Ferrando), Mozarts "Zauberflöte"(Monostatos) at Staatstheater
Stuttgart und guest performances in Japan, Brecht/ Weils "Mahagony"
(Jack/ Tobby) in Basel, in Carl Maria von Webers "Freischütz" (Max),
Hugo von Hoffmannsthals "Ariadne auf Naxos" (Scaramuccio) as well as at
Teatro Real in Madrid and at the Opera Nacional de Paris in Mozarts
"Zauberflöte" (Monostatos) in the spectacular stage performance by La
Fura Dels Baus conducted by Marc Minkowski. 2009 Markus Brutscher will
give his debut with the London Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by
Vladimir Jurowski with the opera "Historia" by D. Johann Fausten
(concertant) at the Royal Festival Hall London. The musical press are
unanimous in their praise for Markus Brutscher´s musical ability, the remarkable timbre of his voice as well as his vocal techniques and
overwhelming stylistic sovereignty in all languages. He has also found
international acknowledgement for his high level of commitment to
contemporary music.More than 50 recordings with SonyClassic, EMI,
Capriccio and Thorofon show the versatility of Markus Brutscher as a
singer. The latest CD‐productions are Vilvaldi Vesper conducted by
Roland Wilson, Zaide with the Wiener Akademie conducted by Martin
Haselböck, Mendessohns "Paulus" conducted by Doris Hagel and the just
released solo‐CD "Bleibt ihr Engel, bleibt bei mir" with the orchestra
Le Chardon. Soon the CD HMoll Messe in cooperation with Naive will be
released. Several events and benefit‐concert will be realised in
cooperation with Camillo Radecke, Barbara Willie and also with Urban
Terrorists.
