Cappella Mariana is a chamber vocal ensemble which specializes in interpretation of middle age polyphony, renaissance polyphony and works from early baroque period. The performances of the ensemble are very popular with the audience and highly appreciated for their expressiveness of act and sensitive approach to the work with text. Cappella Mariana was established in 2008 and it focuses, as one of the few Czech vocal ensembles, on performing of forgotten pieces of vocal polyphony from the period of Italian, Flemish or English Renaissance. It is an artistic patron of the concert cycle called Lenten Fridays that link to the tradition of music performances at the Charles Bridge. The members of the ensemble, internationally renowned singers, cooperate often with the ensemble Collegium Marianum and perform at prestigious European festivals (Festival de Sablé, Festival Baroque de Pontoise, Tage Alter Musik Regensburg, Bachfest Leipzig, Mozartfest, Pražské Jaro, Mitte Europa, Bolzano Festival Bozen…). They also deal with interpretation of baroque and pre-romantic music and you can see them at both Czech and foreign stages together with ensembles like Collegium Bach Japan, Collegium 1704, Collegium Vocale Gent, Musica Florea, Doulce Memoire and others. Since its establishment the ensemble works under the artistic director Vojtěch Semerád who has been studying, after completion of the Charles University in Prague and the Conservatoire National Superieur in Paris, at the pope institute Musica Sacra in Rome. There he deepens his knowledge and discovers the jewels of the renaissance music as well as Gregorian chant.
