Marek is a graduate of Orchestral Conducting at Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Brno (JAMU) in Brno. His main focus is on the interpretation of so-called early music and contemporary music. Marek is currently acquiring theoretical knowledge in the field of performing arts by studying various musical treatises and archival materials from the 18th century, practical as well as orchestral and ensemble experience from chamber and solo pieces with leading figures such as Shalev Ad-El, James Johnston and with the basso continuo player Jesper B?je Christensen. Marek Čermák is the artistic director of the Musica Figuralis ensemble, and he cooperates with such ensembles as Societas incognitorum, Sol et Sedes, Ars Brunensis Chorus, Solamente naturali, the Brno Philharmonic Orchestra, the Olomouc Moravian Philharmonic Orchestra, etc. He is the conductor of various opera projects preformed by Ensemble Damian and a private music project manager in the area of early and contemporary music. In connection with his practice, he has been teaching ensemble play and general bass according to 18th century tracts with the application to playing harpsichord and continuo organ. The focus of his work is the management of projects concentrating on the renewed premieres of Moravian and Czech music from the second half of the 18th century, with an authentic interpretation by period instruments.
