Richard Samek was born in Třebíč. He was classicaly trained at the Janaček Academy of Music in Brno, CZ, where he studied the operatic voice with Professor Anna Barova. Upon completion of his studies, Richard debuted on the stage of the National Theatre in Brno, where performed in the role of Faust in the opera Mefistofeles composed by A. Boito. Later he sang in the role of Pierre Bezuchov in the opera War and Peace by S. Prokofjev, in the role Bárinkay in the “Cikánský baron” by J.Strauss, in the role Ismael in Nabucco by G.Verdi, also in the production From the Dead House by L. Janáček and the scenic performance of W. A. Mozarts Requiem. He is currently a member of the Prague State Opera ensemble, where he performs in the opera Candide by L. Bernstein, in G. Puccini´s Turandot, Manon Lescaut and La Boheme, in G. Verdi´s Nabucco and in A. Dvořák's Rusalka. Since 2006, he has been as a guest in the J. K. Tyl Theatre in Pilsen, CZ, performing the role of the Prince in A. Dvořák’s opera Rusalka. In 2007 he accepted the permanent engagement in this theater. Since 2008 Richard Samek has been a guest of the National Theatre in Prague. In 2010 he made a debut in the roles of Jenik (B. Smetana, The Bartered bride), Tamino (W. A. Mozart,Die Zauber flute). Now he is preparing for the roles of Duka (Rigoletto, G. Verdi) and Belmonte (W.A.Mozart, Die Entführung aus dem Serail). Richard Samek has been awarded many prizes in global competition, most notably “Talent Of TheYear 2003” in the International competition of A. Dvořák in Karlovy Vary, CZ (Karlsbad). As well, Richard was awarded mention for “emerging talent”, at the singing competition of M.S. Trnavsky. In his professional concert activity Richard Samek has performed throughout Europe, as well in Canada and Japan, where he has cooperated with many prominent chamber ensembles and symphony orchestras.
