Vojtěch Semerád, studied the viola at the Prague Conservatory in the class of Karel Dolezal. Following his studies of the baroque violin in Paris at the Conservatoire national supérieur de musique et de danse with François Fernandez, he has been focussing on baroque repertoire and has performed with a number of period ensembles in the Czech Republic and abroad. After graduating from Charles University, Prague, where he specialised in Choirmastering of Church music (in Gregorian chant he worked with David Eben), he studied Gregorian chant with Louis-Marie Vigne at the Conservatoire national supérieur de musique et de danse de Paris. In Prague he was awarded an MA title for his diplom thesis on Church music in Central Europe in the Baroque era. He is deputy director of Collegium Marianum – Institut of Historical Arts, as a Týn Vocational School has been operating since 1990 in the former Servite monastery in Prague’s Old Town and until today is playing important role in Prague’s cultural life. As the leader of Cappella Mariana, Vojtech Semerad specialises in the music of Renaissance polyphony and Gregorian chant and besides his concert activities he regularly serves during the liturgical ceremonies.
