Martin Jakubíček

Martin Jakubíček was born to a musical family in 1965 in Brno. In 1980-1986 he studied cembalo and composition at the Conservatory, than followed his studies at the Janacek Academy of Fine Arts in Brno, where he occupied himself with improvisation a lot.
He represented the Academy at the International J. S. Bach Organ Competition in Leipzig and at the organ competition of the Prague Spring International Music Festival. He was awarded main prizes at the ČSR and SVOČ interpretation competitions.
He further developed his mastery in master classes in Millstad (AUT). Apart from his solo performances (cembalo, piano, hammer piano) he is also an artistic leader of number of renowned chamber formations and a founding member of ensembles pursuing authentic interpretation of renaissance and baroque music.
He cooperates with czech and foreign chamber orchestras. He is a sought after accompanier of choirs (Ars Brunesis, Brno Academic Choir, Cantilena, Czech Philharmonic Choir of Brno, Moravan or The Choral Society of Moravian Teachers) as well as soloists (Kožená, Stivín, Hudeček, Šporcl, Novák). He is significantly involved in smaller chamber orchestras (Duo Seraphim, Concordia Duo, Flores Musicae, Duo 415). In an effort for the most authentic interpretation he uses a top-class copies of musical instruments (english Virginal – 1650 Keene, hammer piano – 1795 Walter, baroque positive organ replica, clavichord from 17th century). He regularly performs in many european countries (Netherlands, Belgium, France, Danmark, Germany, Poland etc.). He cooprates with Czech Radio and TV.
As an interpret he took part in dozens of CD recordings. He is an organist in churches in Brno. Last but not least, he is an active composer and arranger. His works warry from traditional folk music (Broln, Hradišťan, J. Černý), modern folk (Tebard, Cimbal Classic, V. Redl), rock music (Angelus Novus) and classical music (Canticum novum, Fagotti Brunenses, Madrigal quintet).
For his versatility, Martin Jakubiček is a sought after figure of the present-day music scene.
