Tomáš Král
The baritone Tomáš Král hails from Brno, where he studied at the Matyáš Lerch French Grammar School and subsequently voice at the Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts (with Dr. Adriana Hlavsová). Within the Chamber Opera of the academy’s Music Faculty, he performed the roles of Ernesto in Joseph Haydn’s opera Il mondo della Luna, Harašta in Leoš Janáček’s The Cunning Little Vixen and the Count in Wolfgang A. Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro. Since 2005 he has regularly collaborated with Collegium 1704, Collegium Marianum, Musica Florea, Capella Regia, Ensemble Inégal, Ensemble Tourbillon and other ensembles. He is a member of Collegium Vocale 1704, with whom he participated in the “Bach – Prague 2005” project (Mass in B minor at the Prague Spring festival, the Christmas Oratorio within the Prague Symphony Orchestra’s cycle). In 2007 he performed in the St John Passion and the St Mathew Passion and, most notably, Jan Dismas Zelenka’s Missa Votiva at Prague Spring, Dresdner Festspiele, Festival de la Chaise Dieu and Festival de Sablé, at which a successful recording was made for the French label Zig-Zag Territoirs. In 2006, under the guidance of Jana Semerádová and her Collegium Marianum, he performed the role of Uberto in Giovanni B. Pergolesi’s comic intermezzo La Serva Padrona and thus he had the opportunity to appear before audiences at international music festivals not only in the Czech Republic but also abroad (Finland, France). Moreover, in 2006 he won 2nd prize at the Sacred Music Competition in Kroměříž. In 2008 he began collaborating with the French Renaissance ensemble Doulce Mémoire, with whom he has since regularly performed within the programmes Une tour de Babel musical, Requiem des Rois de France and the solo programme of Caccini’s music Les Roses d’Ispahan. In the same year he began appearing as a guest at the Moravian Theater in Olomouc in the operetta Bocaccio (the titular role) and in Mozart’s opera Cosi fan tutte (Guglielmo). Tomáš Král continues to devote to knowledgeable interpretation of early music, actively participating in master classes led by Julie Hasler, Howard Crook, Peter Schreier and Ivan Kusnjer.
